Hope From God

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. - 1 CORINTHIANS 10:13

I need this verse pasted on my forehead. This verse has such hope and promise in it. I read it and I believe it , but when it comes down to the fire fight, I forget and start to worry and fret and get great anxiety.

I think we all are this way, that is why we have to commit these verses to our hearts and minds to recall them in one of our many lifes battles.

When we go to battle each day, we need our sword and the sword is The Word of God.

When you are in the heat of the battle, commit this verse to your heart and mind and recall it, claim it and satan run away crying like a baby...

God Bless

Girls Night Out=Many Yummy Cookies

A great way to have a girls night out and not feel guilty about doing it is to have a Cookie Exchange. This is great fun...you get to spend time with you friends and come home with a load of different beautiful cookies...This is a time saver.

Here's how to have a Cookie Exchange with your friends, family, neighbors, church or community group!

* Invite 8 friends

* Everyone make 8 dozen cookies to exchange.

* Ask everyone to bake their family's favorite cookie and try to make sure there will be no duplicated recipes for the Cookie Exchange. The more variety you have the more fun it will be!

* Cookies to be exchanged should be wrapped well; placed either on plastic plates with saran wrap or in inexpensive disposable containers that are airtight.

* Attaching a copy of the cookie recipe with each dozen is always a nice touch, be sure everyone includes their name and any information about where the recipe is from, how it originated or at least a few words about how much their family enjoys the cookies.

* During the Cookie Exchange serve warm beverages such as coffee, hot cocoa, hot apple cider or herbal teas in pretty cups.

And most of all, enjoy this fun time with your friends! Thas What Works For Me!
Here are two really great sites that have loads of information and helps for pulling off a successful Cookie Exchange.

Now There is Cooking & Baking & Cleaning & Shopping.......

I feel as if I am naming off Santa's Reindeer and there is no end.

With my oldest daughter off from college yesterday and off from work...we decided to finally get the tree up. They did it all with a little directions ( unwanted as it may be ) from mom.

They did an awesome job. The tree was loaned to us from a dear, sweet, friend from church and it is the most beautiful tree I have ever had in my house. It looks so real....It is really big and we moved the room around to make it fit....Only problem is, if anyone comes to the front door....we can't get it open....OH NO!

We don't have a chimney either...how will Santa get in....OH MY! Another dilema!

While the girls put up the tree, I was off to the kitchen to make up a batch of sugar cookie dough to use in our homeschool party. We baked and decorated the sugar cookies of all shapes and then we split up and delivered them to many deserving folks in our community...I hope they all have health insurance...lol
It was a fun day and as soon as we got home the bad weather came in and we were safe and sound and snug in our home....It was a good time.

Today, we have ice everywhere and I am going to do some more baking while there girls clean. My youngest is finishing up her school work for the day first and nursing a cold she woke up with...yuck.
I have and will have several posts having to do with Christmas Baking, Cookie Exchange Parties and such topics. Come back and get some great Cookie Recipies. Better Yet Subscribe to the feed and get the post daily.

I hope your day is fruitful and you are warm and snug in your home. God Bless!

Community Service and a little Bragging for a Homeschool Mom!

This semester my oldest daughter, Rebecca took a communications class. I thought that it was mostly going to be on how to speak in public. I was wrong for sure.

The class took part in a community service project at a local park and boy did they work hard.

Part of the assignment was to report on the project and my daughter choose to report by blogging on the progress of the project.

She did a good job. Of course I would think so ...She's mine....:)

I wanted to share it with you...brag a little too...lol

Click here to visit her blog

Also the College newspaper picked up and reported on the blog...I am still bragging, bear with me. Go here to see the article

She came home today and said that the Nashville Tenneasean had also picked up the article. I have not found it yet....but its out there and my chest is swelling...lol
No, seriously these kids worked really hard and got down and dirty during this project...I am prould of all of them and here is a cyber pat on the back.
Good Job!

Walgreens has Russell Stover's Private Reserve Luminary Boxes (6.7 oz.) on sale for $4.99 through Saturday, December 6, 2008. Buy two of these and they qualify for a $10 EasySaver rebate (rebate offer #53) and they are completely free after rebate!

And if you have the Buy 2, Get 1 Free coupon from the 08/17 SmartSource insert, you can not only get two free after rebate, but you also get a third one free with the coupon.
Wouldn't these make a great gift for someone for Christmas?

Bath and Body Works: Free lip product with any purchase (through December 7, 2008)

Go here to print your coupon for a free lip product (up to $12) with any purchase at Bath and Body Works. This coupon is only good through December 7, 2008 but it's a great coupon since you can purchase anything in the store (even a $1 clearance item!) and get a free lip product!

Also, it seems you can stack coupons at Bath and Body Works. If that is the case (anyone tried it?), you may also be able to get a free 2 oz. Signature Collection lotion with this coupon in addition to the lip product.

Plus, if you are going to be spending $10 and your store allows you to stack coupons, you can also get a free item (up to $13) with this coupon in addition to lip product and free lotion.
I'd love to hear if you are able to use the 3 coupons above in conjunction with one another. So let us know how it goes if you try it. It might be a great way to get some very inexpensive Christmas presents!

Never, Ever Pay Full Retail for Anything!

Something my mom always taughtme from the beginning of time....Never, ever pay full retail!
This is truly a mindset. It is so hard to see all the nice new things that come out each season and not "WANT" it all.
But here is what my mom taught me:

When all the new things come....we would go "wish" shopping.
we would go and look at everything, the new fashions and decide what we liked and what we didn't, try on and really got a feel for what we truly liked....then...here comes the tricky part.
We would walk out and leave all of it at the store.

No impulse buying here. lol
Then when the stores started their sales. We would ...................you guessed it............stay home.lol

Then when the stores would have a really good sale, like the one I went to yesterday...90% off.
We would go and buy.

Now the downside is there was not always what we picked out the first day. But we did always do well. I was always clothed very well.

My dad still does this to this day. He visits the big department stores in our area and chooses what he will want when the sales get good. Usually he will buy when the item is 50% off and take another 50% off.....He is frugal too!

The key here is to always buy at the end of the season for the next year. Those of you who have small children....you will get good at guessing growth rate of your child..it can be done.

My girls always were a year behind the styles...
If there was an item that came out that was very trendy and I knew would only last for one season...If it was something they really wanted......Then it might become a Christmas Present.

You get the basic principle...........no impulse buying.........wait for sales.........buy end of season!
You will save thousands of dollars using this method.

The cool thing is, after a year or so, you realize that you are learning the sales patterns of your favorite stores and you know how long to hold out for that favorite item.

Awesome Free Paper Dolls: Good Cheap Fun!

Do you remember the original Betsy McCall paper doll series. For those who may be old enough to remember (!), beginning in 1951, McCalls magazine used to put out a page in their magazine with the Betsy McCall paper doll series for young girls to cut out. Each issue had new outfits and new things to add to this collection.
This whole series is now available to freely download here. I think they go back to 1951, and some of the pages are adorable. You actually have access to each and every page of the Betsy McCall series, I wanted to pass it along if you have a young daughter!
Yes, it will take paper and ink to print, but it's a pretty inexpensive activity you and your daughters could do together. And by the way, if you get tired of the Betsy McCall dolls and want to print out other paper dolls, just do a quick Google search and you'll find more free paper dolls to download then your daughter could probably ever have time to cut out and play with in her lifetime!

Wordless Wednesday: Family After Thanksgiving Meal!

A Few of My Favorite Things: A Free Pedicure

Several Months ago Herbal Essences had a promotion, if you bought two of the specially marked bottles of their shampoo or conditioner you could send off for a free manicure or pedicure. I gladly purchased some and sent off for mine.

I finally got all my ducks lined up and went to the wonderful spa in a adjoining town. It was wonderful. I was in heaven. What a nice thing. Of course this offer is not available now but in the future....there will be other offers and I will try to keep you informed. This spa pedicure would have cost me $40.00....WOW!

Here is the final results...nice huh? I love my toes to feel pretty.
And this my friends....Works for ME!!!

Traveling On Holidays:Thanksgiving Tale

We have not in the past traveled much on Holiday. In fact, we have never been on the road after a Holiday...At least not that I can remember.

For this reason, we did not realize that everyone and their brother, mother, sister, dog, cat and iguana was on the road trying to get home from Grandma's house. Goodness gracious! We left around noon on Sunday for an 8 hour trip. With the time change, that would have put us home by 8:00 with all our stops. Well...................

We had Snow, Ice, Rain, Thunder Storms, and TRAFFIC! Oh my did we have TRAFFIC!!

After all was said and done....it took us 12 hours to get home...But-with God's protection we got home safe and sound.
Praise God!

I assume there are some other travel tips I should learn from this experience...I will am not really sure what they are. Below are some links that have some travel tips....

All It Needs Is a Fresh Coat Of Paint, Right? Right!

I really am not an experienced painter. So where else to try my hand at it...but the closet... Who in their right mind would look in my closet and examine the painting job....so I get brave and paint. I was scary and my husband wasn't even home to coach me.

It actually turned out okay. My dear husband will have to go back and fix a few mistakes. But like I said , who is gona be examining my closet....If they stick their head in to examine my closet I'll just kick them in and close the door...ha!

Here is the final product...Now just to find where we put the shelves and put them in. Now where did I put those shelves? Oh my....where are they....

More progress later.

What Mama Need Most: FREE Facial!! :)

Continuing from my last Works for Me Wednesday Post.....I have something else that I ran upon that really WORKED FOR ME! A FREE Facial. I mean a really nice facial....complete with a 10 minute mask...I was in heaven.

I was in Boston in a really nice mall and ran upon a shop called Origins....I went in and asked questions about the products. I have become more and more aware of the chemicals and such used in so many of our products we use on a daily basis and the bad effects they have on our bodies. This line of skin care products are chemical free....They are " Green " too.

This is a blurb for their website:

"Since we launched in 1990, Origins has been about looking at things in different ways. Choices. Alternatives. New experiences. All sorts of exciting new possibilities. And always finding answers in nature. And we offer you three distinct collections of products to choose from.Since 1990, we’ve been creating and innovating healthful choices in Skin Care, Hair Care, Bath and Body, Color and Sensory Therapy® products using the best of nature along with trying to do what’s best for the planet and what’s best for you.Our many unique products go beyond physical appearance to treat, touch, scent and surround every aspect of your being and well-being. We create products for farmhouse and penthouse, for men and women, babies and pets, getting and gifting. Whether you need an aromatic candle to light your way...or a special gift to make someone’s day, you’ll find just what you need to live a more natural lifestyle at Origins.Today you’ll find Origins in more than 450 department and specialty stores and 125 of our own free-standing retail stores in the United States as well as in 26 countries around the world. "

Check out their website here.

Well, I was in heaven. A Free facial and I walked out of there with my face feeling wonderful. I was very impressed with the products. I, of course could not afford to buy but one product...But I really liked the products.

If you have a store in your area...or if the line has a counter in one of your big department stores...you too can go and get a free facial...I am telling you, I Worked for Me!

Best Bargins,

Lynne

Packing for a Holiday: Away for it ALL!

Around here we have to make fun out of what ever it is in our schedule that we HAVE to do....This Holiday we have to go to West Virginia for Work for my husband. We have family there and we LOVE spending time with them. So we get to spend the Holiday with our family!

We don't usually travel on Holidays so this is different for us.

While we are there we are taking advantage of the mountians and I am taking the girls sking....yeah....not me....just them...I am perfecting the sport of sitting and watching...I am getting very good at this.

We are excited and are packing today. So this is my tackle!

Enjoy your family for Thanksgiving!

God Bless,
Lynne

Happy Thanksgiving

A Little Humor for the Holiday Season!
____________________________________________________________________
On this holiday I am thinking of all we truly do need to be thankful for but because of all we have been blessed with, we don't see it. We take so much for granite. Right now, with the economy in the state it is in, it gives us a chance to realize what we really do have. Something like freedom,
free·dom
Pronunciation:
\ˈfrē-dəm\
Function:
noun
Date:
before 12th century
1: the quality or state of being free: as a: the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action b: liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another.
Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to assemble for our worship services, freedom of press, so that we may print and distribute the Word of God, freedom of educating our children the way we see fit through God's eyes.
With all these freedoms that we should be thankful for....Everyday, we are in danger of having these freedoms taken away.
We need to be thankful and we need to pray for the leaders of thie country.
As you are celebrating this Thanksgiving, Pray with your families for our nation, and for our freedoms.
God Bless you ,
Lynne
